Initially I added 3.75 qts then started the bike and let it run for a few minutes (this was upright, on a JS jack). I then shut it down and checked the oil. It was about 3/4 the way up the "hot" portion of the dipstick. I then added the other 1/4 qt and went for a ride.

I didn't notice any blow by whatsoever. Perhaps I need to double check things again tonight after work just to make sure.

Thanks!

On my Ultra I have always put in 4 quarts and it's always been right on and no blow-by problems at all........ come to think about, I do have an oil cooler so that may explain it. Can't say the noise is bad but I have used synthetic all the time.

Unless I've gone senile (entirely possible), I'm pretty sure I always put 4 quarts in my '05 EGC (88" w/ NO oil cooler) also. My '09 EGC had a service plan on it so I didn't have to jack with it.

When draining the oil, I always pull the dipstick to ensure as complete of a drain as possible, but that's normal.

Interesting...

Funny this subject came up, I bought a quart of Lucas Synthetic stabilizer yesterday to deal with the Oklahoma heat. I plan to change the oil this week to see how it works.

It's been a catch 22 here. I live in Missouri and bought the bike a month ago. Normally it wouldn't have taken 4 weeks to get 500 miles, but when it's 115 heat index EVERY day and still over 100 at 9:00pm, I don't much feel like riding.

I wanted to run the new "combo" badly, but wanted to get to at least 500 miles first.

Been using the the Lucas syn stabilizer since reading about it on the forum. Does good job with motor noise. The stock 88 got even more quiet after the hydraulic camchain tensioner install.

On the 05 egc I got rid of, and on the 09 egc I have now, they both were real quite when I first got them and the valve train noise didn't start until about 7-8k miles. At first it would drive me nuts, so I changed my 1/2 helmet to a 3/4 and drowned out the noise. I've tried redline and mobil 1 I can't say I notice any differance in either one. I'm about due for an oil change I might give Lucas Synthetic stabilizer a try.
