Default Speedometer

I'd see if he has the original speedometer & see how many miles are on it.

I second Batman's advice. That speedo/tach combo is not a stock item. So it's possible that he drove the bike for many extra miles before installing the speedo. Therefore the mileage count may not be accurate.

Some nice add-ons though. The floorboard inserts, rear-brake pedal, speedo/tach, and windshield bag are exactly the same ones that I have, and I'm rather fond of 'em. On this bike, I also like the rotors, but am not overly fond of those solid disc wheel. They certainly have a unique look though.

Good luck with your decision!!

Wow, this is a great forum!

Thanks to you all for responding! Some great thoughts there. I think I'm going to lowball him a bit and see where it goes. I'm willing to take some risk on the bike as it really presents as a clean specimen.

But as everyone has pointed out, it's overpriced, especially given the market and the amount of "get even" maintenance it's gonna need outta the gate. I learned long ago not to get emotional over a deal. There's always another deal around another corner - sooner or later.

If this doesn't come together, where are the best places to scout for deals? (and as I'm far from rich, I need a deal). So far I've been looking at Craigslist, Cycle trader and scanning regional stealerships.

Thanks again for your great help. Hope to join you soon as an owner!

I'd be leery of the mileage if that bike is a 2001 model with only 2k miles showing on the speedo. The speedo has been replaced with a speedo / tach combo. When you replace that, the dealer is supposed to reinstate the mileage to what was on the original speedo. They do this when you purchase the speedo/tach and it comes to them from Harley with the mileage re-instated on the new speedo. Not all dealers are super diligent about doing this. If it were me, I'd ask if he has the original speedo, or any paperwork on the replaced speedometer (mileage when it was replaced etc.). If you get the runaround when you ask him this, then I'd be wary.

From what I have seen this bike is a road king classic and not a standard
look to see if it has an electronic cruise control. A classic is worth more
than a standard, so good luck, and a big ol welcome to the forum from
centrel Texas

For purusing bikes, I like Craigslist and EBay for my target needs. What I mean by that is that I am a buyer for 99 - 02 Touring bikes, and as discussed here, they can't hold the resale their owners wish they could.

Newer bikes demand higher numbers, some quite unrealistic and buying them IMO is more difficult.

But if you stick to the 99-02, ( did I mention bulletproof crankshaft?) I'm sure you'll find your $9,000 touring bike.

(My co-worker at the office has an '03 Fatboy he's keeping and a '00 FLTHCUI in mint condition ( looks new!) with 31,000 miles. He's determined to get $10,000 for it...going on 2 years now. Here in NC I've repeatedly told him it's a $8500 bike.

I bought a 1996 FLHRI (m&m) with 5900 miles, no problems, over 15,000 now.

Bike looks good. Agree with others about price and service.

Keep the Honda. You'll want a light bike from time to time to go play with.

That looks like a nice bike. I would suggest getting the service records, but with only 2,000 miles I doubt that would help . If you feel the bike is worth the 11k then go for it. I might suggest that it will need a thorough going over on your part and so you might be able to wittle them down on price.
