Default Brake Light not working using either foot or hand control

Last night I was riding home on my 08 FLHX and got to a stop light and someone in a cage rolled up next to me and told me my brake light was stuck on the whole time he was driving behind me. I thanked him and when I got home I turned the bike off turned it on and the brake light was still on. I stepped on the foot brake pedal a few times and it went off and on intermittently but then after a few attempts it does not work with either control. It is on as running light so the bulb did not blow. Is there a switch on the foot control that could have went bad and blew a fuse?

Check the bulb first. It has two filiments, one for the brake and the other is for the running light.

have you changed your grips or levers lately?...I am suspecting your front brake light switch could be broken.

Just had the same problem on my 2010 FLHTK with brake light staying on. It was the brake switch on right side just in front of rear wheel. This also caused my check engine light to go on. Dealer fixed it under warranty in less than an hour.

Good Luck

On the '09 and up models, the rear brake switch can melt and hang on. Seems to be a common problem. The location is not the best placement that could have been chosen.

I had the rear brake light switch fail with the brake light on all the time. Dealer replaced switch. The second time it failed with the brake light off all the time. Dealer replaced switch again.

Had the same failure with my 2010 FLHTK. You can verify that it is the rear brake switch by removing one of the connections. If the front brake lever now activates the brake light, than you know it was the rear brake switch failing.

If you need to replace it, replace it with the 25-506 from here:
http://www.cas4.com/brakes/brake-hardware-switches.html

Much better than the HD piece of sh*t.
