Default Rear shocks on 012 Ultra

Guys, In your opinion, which rear shock rides best on a Ultra ? I have an 012 and I'm thinking about a pair of Ohlins from Harold or a pair of Ricors. the stock shocks suck and having had three Harleys I always swap them for a better set. I'll be swapping out the stock shocks this winter. I'm wondering, those who have installed either brand shock how do you like them ? Is there a noticable difference between these brands ? My wife and I like to tour by bike and I'm asking from your experences which shock is rides better ? Thank you, Murf

I haven't tried the Ricors, but I gather they're a pretty good product.

I've got the Ohlins 3-1s from Motorcycle Metal. It took me a little while to get them dialed in, but once I did, it was a tremendous leap forward in both ride comfort and handling. I actually bought them more for handling than comfort, but the plush ride is also appreciated.

I've ridden a friends bike with Progressive shocks, and they're a step up from the stock shocks, but they don't have the plush ride the Ohlins have, and I'm glad I spent the little extra.

I'm trying to decide the same thing. Talking to the parts guys at my dealership, they recommend the Progressive 440's

The Parts manager runs them on his EG and says they really help.

I think that's what I'm gonna go with.

You have to set the preload, basically sit on the bike and adjust the spring to give you the best ride and maximize the capability of the shocks you buy. If you get ricor or ohlins (my choice by far), you will have to set them properly. Its a pretty easy process with a extra set of hands and a cheap 24" caloiper from harbor freight. You could call Howard today and ask or look at his website.
