I understand how to make the adjustments, I just don't understand when to do it and why....my understanding is that the only real adjustment needed is the one on the cable adjuster, but I hear all about doing the clutch center bolt adjustment....from what I learned you adjust the cable first and when you can't get any more adjustment there you go to the clutch itself...but on here I hear all about how folks are adjusting the clutch bolt...someone straighten me out on this...
First you adjust the clutch center bolt. Next, you adjust the clutch cable. You will be surprised at how well your clutch will work. Just follow the directions in the Service Manual-------You do have A Service Manual---Don't you?????
..the cable adjuster sleeve is only there to adjust the cable AFTER it has been fully loosened up prior to the clutch adjustment being made, it doesn't "fine-tune" the clutch itself, cause after you adjust the center bolt(pressure plate rod), you actually "lock" it in place by tightening down the outer lock-nut. Sometimes that's where the confusion can come in. Hope that helps....
Adjust the clutch at every oil change to make up for wear on the plates even though the wear is minimal. You adjust the CLUTCH at the center bolt....you adjust the CABLE at the jam nut/turnbuckle.
