What to do?
So here's the deal. My bike is totaled from the accident last month. I just got an offer from the insurance company for it. It is a generous offer too. So here's the question. They offer me so much and take it or for $775.61 less I can keep it.
One caveat is that a friend of mine is interested in the bike and may buy it from in which case I will keep it and get the whole value.
But if he decides not to buy it then do I keep it and part it out? I am thinking that I can get a fair amount for it by selling off the parts. I was getting some things off of it last weekend and this guy was talking to my wife wondering if I was going to keep it or not and if I do he is interested in buying my saddle bags.

JMHO, but if the insurance offer is "generous", take the bird in hand. Giver your buddy a couple of days to come up with the money; if he truly wants/can buy the bike; he will. Forget about parting it out; it will take forever; you won't get what you want for the parts; to maximize sale, you will have to adertise and ship; you will have to invest time and effort into pulling the parts; just a real PITA for a less than expected return. Like I said, JMHO.
Wifes bike was totaled a few months ago. We made out with $1200.00 in hand after payoff. Was not enough to get her back on a bike, but she has to heal still anyway. What her and I did agree on, was that we did not want to look at the wreck any longer than required. It was important to begin putting her accident behind her.
