Changing Oil 05 FLHRI Road King
I have an 05 FLHRI Road King. The service manual calls for oil filter 63798-99. The dealer had a 63798-99A and said it was the same filter. Is it the same.
Also the service manual has you torque the drain plug 14-21 ft lbs. Is it necessary to torque the drain plug.

CharlieZ,
Same oil filter, you're good to go, not to worry.
As for the drain plug, I torque everything that calls for torques. If you don't have a torque wrench, be careful when you put it on, you don't want to over torque your aluminum case...you'll strip it, and wish you had spent the money on the torque wrench.
If you plan on doing any work on your bike, get a good torque wrench. It will pay for itself and give you ease of mind knowing the job is done right.

Get yourself a decent torque wrench man. You'll wish you had when you strip out those aluminum threads.
I use an inch pound torque wrench for the light torques. Some of HD specs call for inch pounds. No sense in having 3 torque wrenches. ( inch pounds, lower spec foot pounds and higher torque foot pounds)
If you have a light torque such as 14 ft lbs. just multiply the torque by 12 and dial it up on your inch pound torque wrench. I also cut out an old antifreeze jug and made a shoot for the oil when removing the filter. It brings the oil to the left floorboard area and you can catch it by the kickstand instead of running down all over the place and then having to clean up a mess.
