Default Trading up to an Ultra Limited - Advice Please

Trading in my 99 Road King with 60K miles for a 2012 Ultra Limited. They're giving me about 5k for my RK. What's a reasonable price for the Limited with stage 1? Trying to get out the door for under 20k after trade in. I won't be financing. Thanks.

You will LOVE the Limited but why not test the waters on Craigslist with the RK? seems like you could get at least $2-3k more in your pocket out of it. Good Luck!

5K is probably fair for a dealer trade, you could maybe get a couple of grand more selling yourself
( I sold my 1995 FLHTC a year ago for $6500-- it had useful add ons like racks and 80000 miles--- it took months for the right buyer and the bike to find each other-- both of us were happy with the deal--- but oh the tire kickers and time wasters)

Now that the 2012 ultra has the 103", the limited is more a cosmetic package---for which you pay a premium, you could probably save by going with an ultra.

or even more with a left over 2011 ( which would have the 96").

stage 1- you can have the dealer do it with their stuff, the convenience costs though.

you don't list your area, some riders might have tip for you if you do.

some great deals can be found at the Montana dealers, no sales tax. you set up a montana llc with one of the online brokers ( just google) they set up an llc for your about $600.
The bike is owned by the llc, titled in MT- which has permanent plates- no annual fees, no inspection etc.
that can save thousands of $. ( now you know why you see so many montana RV's on the road)
missoula and kalispell H-D share ownership

Good Luck!

I don't think you could get out the door for under 20k in my area. With your trade of 5k that is equivalent to 25k out the door without the trade.

The Limited's are hot selling bikes so getting a "deal" is not very easy.

And add to that, if you're not financing, that makes it even more unlikely. Dealers love financing because they make a profit on the financing too.

Don't know where you're located. Hopefully you'll have a better shot at a deal there then I could have here.

You are going to love it. I just traded a 2005 EG for the Ultra Limited. I have already put 1000 miles on it in 4 days. It rides great..

If your road king is clean you can get more than 5000.00 for it easily. I sold my 95 ultra for 9k in one week. It was clean and had engine work etc. With no trade you can be far ahead of the came. Get 1500 off list minimum and no fry and prep. I got mine 2100 of list but bought 2011 right when 2012 came out.

I just bought a leftover 2011 Limited. They come standard with a 103. A few more extra's than on an Ultra, 2012 vs. 2012, really can't justify the price difference. I chose the Limited over a 2012 Ultra simply because of the end of the year model discount. What I DO like about it over the Ultra....chrome wheels. Easier to keep clean. It also comes with heated grips, luggage rack, upgraded luggage, ABS and security, and different guages. Look at both side to side. Either one you won't go wrong. There is a warning though, the exhaust is HOTTER THAN HELL! My winter project, de-cat the bast***!!

Sell yours and look around for one that's barely used with a few thousand miles on it. Save your self five or six grand. They are out there and it's a buyers market. If you buy the new one it's used as soon as you leave the lot. Everyone rides a used scoot.
