Default Zumo 550 /MP3 Question

I mounted the Zumo today and played with it some. When I tried to listen to the MP3, the screen said it has to be hooked up to a powered mount or Bluetooth headset to hear audio. What am I missing here, I have it mounted in the cradle with the powercord plugged in? The audio works for navigation directions through the speakers but no music audio so I know the audio cord is good.
I purchased this for two reasons, GPS and MP3. Is this thing capable of playing the MP3 through my radio speakers?

This weekend I will replace the ugly bolts coming out the back of the mount. Either put in shorter black bolts or use chrome acorn nuts on the ends...

Very odd. I've got the EXACT same unit & set-up, and mine plays music off the stored MP3 files just fine. As you said, you're getting the audible directions, so the music should play as well. There are separate volume adjustments for the navigation vs. music, but even if the music one was turned-down to zero it wouldn't give you that message. I'm stumped....and will monitor this thread to see what others say & how this plays-out. Sorry I couldn't be of any help!

From looking at the sumo screen in your picture it looks like the mount is not powered up. The battery light is showing on the screen (top right). The mount needs power, check your fuses.

Is your radio in Aux mode? If so you may have a problem with the memory card. Remove and re-install or try a different card.

To play mp3's, the unit must be installed correctly in the mount and the mount has to be running off vehicle power. When the cradle is on vehicle power and unit installed in the cradle you should not see the battery level indicator on the unit window.

NECaveman is correct. The Zumo will output directions to the audio out line on batteries as the drain is tolerable. Playing audio files requires much more power than the internal batteries can sustain so the programing prevents audio out unless plugged into an external power source. My zumo would display that message every time I rode over a large bump until I found the crimp that was loose (Harley's crimp not mine. just sayin)

Airborne,

I too had the same problem when I first installed the 550.

A IT friend told me that I had to download the CD's in a MP3 format first. Once I did that I was able to get around 450 songs onto a 2 GB scan disc.
Along with what everyone else has already posted, I hope that this helps you out. I am sure more computer smart folks will chime in shortly.
Once you get the 550 dialed in, it's truly a real treat for the concrete jungle.

Good luck,

YB

Set the Microsoft Media Player to rip your CD's in MP3 format. I've had a Zumo 550 for 6 years now. It's a power problem. No battery icon should show up.
