Default Is this normal for ohlins shocks, pics

Have 100 miles or so on my ohlins hd159 rear shocks on 14 sgs. Noticed just one shock has rubbed slightly on the plastic collar housing around the shock body. See pic below, anyone know if this is normal before I contact ohlins?

Yes, that is perfectly normal. You might want to consider a dot of liquid paper on the nut and another on the thread. That way you know if your preload adjust nut ever moves in the future.

That sleeve is there for that very purpose. Coil springs are prone to moving around like that while riding - same on an vehicle with them.

Figured it was normal and that is what that plastic sleeve is there for, to prevent the spring from rubbing on the shock body, but figured I would double check first. Thanks

OP - Did you use misalignment spacers (cone shapes washers) when you installed your shocks?

Assuming those are the spacers that goes over the bolts inside the eyelet of the shocks. If so, yes, I installed the spacers and washers as shown in the instructions through ohlins

I hope Howard will address this post. I had exactly the same issue on the left side. I pulled everything apart and found my swing-arm had a lot of play in a twisting motion. So I rebuilt using new wear items and the Sta-Bo EDD swing-arm bearings. This completely eliminated any play. Have not had a chance to ride as of yet to see if it made any difference. I thought it odd that only one side did this. I re-installed shocks swapping sides so I can tell if it happens again.

I don't think this is normal only after 100miles, I just sold a used pair of ohlins 4yr old shocks that had no marks like that.
Can you post more pic's like from the back I think your not lined up.
I cant tell but it looks like you even put a spacer on the outside of your bottom eyelet.

When I re-mounted mine after the swing-arm rebuild I discovered that the spacers were not needed on the bottom only on the top. Try mounting your shocks to the bottom mount first and see if you have a gap at the top that a spacer fills perfectly. This is how I did mine and now they are mounted correctly. Do you agree Sir Graham? Spacer at the top and no spacer on the bottom.
