FWIW, every new bike I've ever owned has been left factory stock and every used bike I've bought has been returned to that state - sometimes at considerable expense. Every one was rock-solid-reliable except for the new '03 RK that I made the mistake of buying, which was a total POS from day one till I sold it.
Personally, with new bikes, if it ain't what I want right out of the box, then I just don't buy it. Also, generally speaking, when you sell or trade in the bike the stuff you've added adds zero value and can even decrease the value of the bike.
But everybody has their own ideas and opinions about this. I'm only saying what has always worked for me personally. To each his own.

There are some "Must Does" for these bikes just to let them be normal.
Increase restricted air intake... Inhale.
Remove restricting Catalytic Converter... Exhale. Rids excess heat for bike and riders.
Install Fuel Controller... Change AFR to correct level after restrictions were removed.
The rest you can adjust for personal Sound, Comfort, Cosmetics and Performance increase.

I have heard people that say the high flow cone types do not filter well and it reduces engine life.
I have also heard all the rave about the performance.
Has anyone ran the higher flow air filters and had their rides for years and years?
Just curious if the life of the engine is reduced? If so, how much?
