Default Tank removal tips

I have the manual, but I am wondering if anyone would care to share any pointers for removing the tank without making a big mess. Bike is an 04 Road King with the crossover under the frame.

if you can siphon the gas out, it will make it much easier. I took the tank off my 07 for paint and it was a pia getting the gas out. I made a mess. I washed the bike immediately after I spilled on it, so it didnt hurt anything. My tank has a hose that connects to the other side of the tank. can pull that off--and connect the same size hose to it and drain it that way. (while pinching off the other hose) You will know what im saying when you look at it, if its the same as mine. Also there is a quick connect fitting towards the back/ bottom of the tanks. Left side if your sitting on bike. Couple screws by your gas cap. Screw at bottom of tank where seat goes in, console pulls off. A screw on each side at front of tank towards handlebars. Again this is for an 07, but should be the same.

In the pic is a shot of the bolt and theres one on the other side

Herko quick connect in the line will make future tank pulls a breeze. I usually try and have most of the gas out of the tank and lift the front and let whats left go to the rear and then cut the hose. Also a good time to replace your fuel filter.

Also, cover tank with bath towel before yanking off so it's protected from dings while your moving it off bike & onto workbench.

I tried searching eBay and I can't seem to find Herko's quick disconnect anywhere. Is he still in business?
