Default U-Haul: smallest enclosed trailer for Ultra transport cross-country?

U-Haul has 4'x8' and 5'x8' enclosed single axle trailers, no ramps. I know they also offer the open trailer with a short ramp and that one has good tie-down capabilities. I don't know if the enclosed trailers have anything to tie to. I will be hauling the cycle behind a F-150 pickup.

Your recommendations?

You better do some measuring because the Ultra is all of 8' long, it would probably have to go in at an angle to fit. Open trailer will pull easier, just depends on what kind of weather you run into.

How far are you going? If the trip can be done in a day I would use the open trailer. I have used it before and it does the job and is cheap.
A friend has used the 5X8 to haul his '09 UC and that worked well.

I have a 5x8 and it works perfect for one bike. (open trailer, not enclosed)

depending on how much you care, I would strongly suggest a dual axle trailer with brakes.

The trailers I see most often flipped at the roadside are single axle "utility" types- a tire, hitch or bearing problem ( or panic braking) and all of a sudden it changes.

Or put the bike in the truck bed.

I hauled my Ultra with the Uhaul open trailer for 2500 miles....worked like a champ. Your bike is centered behind the tow vehicle and the low side panels on the trailer do a good job of deflecting rocks, etc. so you don't have to worry as much about anything hitting your bike. You can also buy a bike cover to deflect rocks that is tight to the bike....I saw them at a motorcycle show recently.

I left mine out in the open and didn't get hit with anything from the vehicle.

don't cover a towed vehicle if you like the paint.

the cover moves, the paint gets scuffed

Also if you are going to use one of the enclosed trailers dont tell them you are using it to haul a bike. Not designed for it and will or can refuse rental.

if you really want enclosed I heard of people putting eyebolts in the floor and then removing em and replacing with bolts when they return it
