Default How to modify the adjustable backrest mounting kit! Road Glide.

Hi! I believe that there are more people out there than me, that have been pissed off by the bad fitment of the Adjustable Backrest mounting kit. When that item are used together with the stock seat of a Road Glide (that is far much thinner than the Electra seats) it looks like crap.

Today I decided to do something about this problem. (The engineers at MOCO doesn't seem to bother about this issue.)

I did o totally "makeover" of the kit and I like to share this with you fellow Roadgliders.

This is the issue. The mounting kit expands through the seat and that's look like crap. It works but it not look right.

This is the way it I want it to look like.

This is my plan. I going to lower and bring the whole thing forward.

Here you can see how I cut the bracket. I used a threaded rod with nuts to hold the upper parts of the bracket together after they have been cut apart.

The cut is done and the parts are ready to be put in the right position and welded.

The parts are welded back in place. I also did an extra cut to make more space for the connector that is supposed to fit under the bracket. I also welded in place a new fastener for the cylinder. When I tacked the cylinder fastener I did temporarely assemble the whole kit, by doing this I got the cylinder fastener in the right position.

The kit is painted and assembled. The dimensions shows the final placement of the upper parts. Well! Back with this thing on the bike

The washer is there to raise the kit a little bit in the front.

At this point I'm getting a little bit proud of myself. The final result goes beyond what I've had expected. The picture talks for it self.

The pad is in a much nicer position after this modification.

I'm 5,97 tall and the riding position improved a lot after the mod. The bike is an 2007 and I have an Heritage handlebar.
I love my RG and I love the stock seat. The entire mod took me about 3 hours of labour to perform.

I hope you liked this write up and I'm looking forward to answer some questions.

You, Sir, are ingenious! Love the clean look. You should market it.

Good Job

I gotta agree the fitment sucks, but mine was nowhere near as bad as yours.
Mine just peeks out the factory slit (LOL) but it surely could have been engineered better.
When the backrest is locked in place, I have no complaints

Nice work, mine was not so intrusive, I just made a shorter pad bracket for a better height position.
