I just said screw it and did an on-line order(15% off) thru Advance Auto for a battery for $120. Will pick it up after work as it's only .5 miles from my house. I will use the Battery Tender on it year round for now on ...

Hopefully the Big Crank is NOT the "Wal Mart" battery equivalent in Deka's line.
Wally world will source their brand name from different manufacturers based on logistics.....like the supertech oil....most east coast walmarts is made by Warren oil company...but other areas are made by other oil companies....not sure who. The walmart stuff may be made by more than one manufacturer.

FWIW, I've had better luck with HD AGM batteries than Optimas!

I removed the original battery in my '00 FLHT after 6 years. Was still ok but I worry... Changed battery number 2 after 5 years... Was ok, but... I worry ;-)

hd doesn't make batteries. the hd battery is a deka battery. if you get a deka battery, you are getting the same battery, except for the spacer on the terminals.
That's the scuttlebutt I'm hearing too. I ordered the Big Crank (Deka ETX30L) from Battery Mart for $97 shipped. The top cover is identical to the HD battery, and the bottom is translucent white instead of opaque black. I hear the Walmart variant is also the same unit with a yellow bottom.

My original lasted 3½ years, but the second started sounding weak after one year, and six months ago I had the HD shop test it. The result was a marginal thumbs up at 350 CCA, but two weeks ago it read only 275 CCA, which got a thumbs down. By that time it was getting weaker especially when hot, and the voltmeter showed abnormally low voltage at idle. Two years isn't acceptable for a $185 battery (with tax), so I'm trying something else.

Me, I dont't know all the tech stuff, but Hd batteries have always served Me well, so I will stay with them. Tried the others over the years, and the Hd batteries just lasted longer.

My original battery has been in since July 2007 so I guess I'm pushing my luck. I use the battery tender sporadically during the winter and never during summer. With this performance I think I'll stick with another HD battery.

Default BT?

So I'm 18 months into my factory battery and I'm starting to notice slow cranking when hot. Started to get a BT when two coworkers told me they have noticed slight pitting in the chrome work cause they have used BT's since day one. They both always have a bike cover on. So my scoot is always covered up and I'm wondering if there is any truth to this.

Anybody else have a bike that's always under a bike cover with the BT hooked up notice this???

My bikes store under cover from Nov>Mar with a tender connected and never had any oxidation/pitting issues...
