I did the same mod last month. One thing I had to do though was countersink the hole for the witch from the back beause the switch cover barely engaged the threads of the switch. After countersinking, more of the switch threads came through the hole. The whole mod is great.

And the bonus is that if your security fob battery ever goes dead you have the spare right there in the opener.

Now try and get that spare battery out of the fairing at 11 O'Clock at night. Probably best just to throw a spare battery in the saddlebag.

how does the rubber boot attach to the switch? I'm getting ready to do this mod. Do you remember what size the button was on top of your switch? I'm assuming any intermittent/momentary switch will work.

I used the Harley trip odometer reset switch like the OP. Looks good and works like a charm. Nott expensive either.
