Default Cleaning Windshield

I recently had my windshield replace and been using the Bug off Spray by Harley Davidson to clean the windshield, which states that it is safe for windshields. Plus it was recommend by the dealership to clean the windshield. However, lately I been noticing a discoloration in the windshield when the sun hits a certain angle. I was wondering if anyone else had these problems? Also on a trip this past weekend I used it to clean my buddy windshield, he said the same thing that after I clean the windshield he notice a slight discoloration. Like rainbow colors on the outer edges. What upsets me is on the bottle it states safe for windshields? I am thinking about calling Harley customer care on this issue, but I figure I post it in the forum first.

Laying a wet towel on a windshield for 5-10 minutes is a good way to soften bugs. I use Plexus for cleaning an Novus products for removing scratches.

To me the rainbow colors would indicate oil residue, so its truly not clean.

I use Bugslide on my shield + notice the same thing, but only when I'm wearing my polarized sunglasses. Are you by any chance wearing polarized lenses? Optometrist I spoke to actually said they warn skiers against polarized googles cuz you can't see ice with them on.

I only use Novus #1 plastic polish on my windshield. Generally no trouble removing bugs. Or drape a wet towel over the windhsield for 5 minutes or so.

There are any number of other reasons this might occur as well. Sometimes residue, sometimes sun damage, some cleaners have oils in them designed to stick to make the shield easier to clean next time.

What kind of shield do you have on your bike? How long have you had it?

My brand new windshield has the same effect but as stated above, it's only when I wear polarized sunglasses. I see the rainbow effect even in my truck windows and other windows when wearing polarized. If you're not wearing polarized lenses then I don't knwo what to tell you. I've seen windshields after the Harley Bug Remover was used and didn't notice a difference.

Hydrogen Peroxide takes the bugs right off and leaves no residue.
