Road King Police

Road King Police
I have a 2009 FXDB and I think it's time to step-up to a Road King. A local dealer has a new 2013 Road King Police that looks nice. Anybody got any thoughts on the police models vs. the other road king options? Any problems with the police models? I'm wanting something that I can put a few hundred miles without much pain (something that's hard to do on a Street Bob with a 50 year old ***). Is the police model a real touring model?
Thanks in advance.

I hear what you are saying. A few months ago I had a Street Bob and it was time to trade up. I seriously considered a new '12 RK Police for $15,500 but went with a standard '12 RK for a little more. The plus for the Police scooter was the ABS, black wall tires, the fender bumpers and the fact that it was a nice bike.
The negatives were the pizza box, maybe the police hard bags, and probably less resale value than a standard RK.
I think the '13 RK's did away with the air reservoir for the police seat so it should be easier (less expensive) to swap out the pizza box, tag bracket and possibly the seat, it you don't care for the cop seat.
I am kind of surprised that there are already '13 RK Police bikes available. I think there is some kind of *rule* that they have to be on the floor a certain amount of days before they can be sold other than LEO. Just curious - will your dealer replace the blue & red lights with "normal" lens and remove the siren at no cost to you?
Good Luck!

i got the police model in order to get a 103 in a bike I could justify as my first HD. I wanted the newer frame so I got a 2009 FLHP. Other than the 103 I have worked to get it to NOT look like a police bike. The hockey pucks remain but the seat, tour pack bracket, bumpers, etc are all long gone.

All of your questions can be answered there.
Used to be a cop bike was a good value compared to civilian....oil coolers, abs, engine... that was a premium on other tourers... you just added what you wanted to round it out. Now it's not as wide a gap, but if you want to build from a clean platform and get a new bike, road king or glide, for less money.... it's a good start.
Good luck.
