Default How my Harley touring bike made me and the wife some money.

I just finished a project that required me to travel to the gulf coast from the Atlanta area for a year and a half.
I made 48 trips and out of the 48 24 were on my 2010 FLHTK. My average round trip was 850 miles (includes commuting from hotel to site).
Fuel costs were $75.00 on average per trip (this the high end). Costs for services (5,10,15,20k all done by me) which includes costs of materials as per the manual and necessary tools $400.00. (rounded off and based on receipts purchased mainly at sale prices). Still on original tires and will be replacing them (rear stocker just now showing tread bar). So the breakdown in numbers would be:
850 x .55=$467.50 per trip
$467.50 x 24 trips=$11,220.00
$11,220.00 - $1800 (fuel costs) - $400 (maint)= $9020.00 which I banked.

Bike’s paid for so I can use the funds to reward her for her faithful service with some chrome and other goodies.

So where does the wife come in?

She said she worried about me being on the road so much on the bike and in some of the worst storms you can imagine. So I will think I will split the cash with her.

The bike has been flawless and 0 issues. Couldn’t ask for a better machine.

You can't beat that, getting paid to ride. Unfortunately my company prohibits motorcycle use on company business.

I've done that a few times, take the scooter on business trips....it's nice to run solo on a 400+ mile ride...

I can relate. I did an 18 month project in Houston, riding back and forth from Dallas most every week. Between 289 miles each way and my weekly meal per diem, I banked over $18k above my salary. It was enough to trade in my '06 Wide Glide and pay cash for Hester.

Ditto here. Even if I am out on a job and have the weekend off, I can't legally rent a bike and ride. Since I am away from home on the companies dime, it is still considered company business.

I work for the government. POV mileage reimbursment for motorcycles is less than vehicles. So, I can get paid to ride, just can't make the bank you can.

I wish my company paid $0.55/mile. I still make money if I ride but we only reimburse $0.30/mile so I normally rent a car on their dime then they pay the all of the gas also. I don't travel too often anymore though.

I had to go to Florida for work, and I rode there, and back, it was cheaper than a flight just took longer, they payed .49 cents a mile, I think I did ok, and it didn't want to kill any one at the air port.
I could also carry my gun, because of the peaceable journey from Indiana, and Florida , could have done it on a plane, but it would have had to be checked.
