I just stumbled upon "Delboys Garage" on YouTube.
He did a motor oil change on a softtaill but went one step further and purged the old oil out via the return oil tube using new oil to push out all the old.
Amazingly, he got a full litre MORE of dirty old oil out before the new oil started coming through!!
This is new to me but DAMN it makes a lot of sense!
Do any of you do this?
I will from now on.

What oil returnlies to you plan on using on a touring bike?
But my answer is I have no plans. Change your oil regularly and don't worry about it, is my opinion.
A liter does suprise me, even with oil cooler. But nope, I'll just change it regularly.
No. It seems like a waste of time and more opportunity to make a mess.
I didn't watch the whole video but he said he purges before changing the oil filter. A lot of the old dark oil was new oil flushing out a filter that's about to be thrown away.
If the guy did it on a softail for sure, then it's possible the oil drained into the motor from the tank. Start the motor up first would return most of the oil to the tank in that case..
I got a 07 EGC with 122000 miles on it.. Never done a +1 QT oil change..
I have a Scavenger puck to purge the sump.
I only do it every 3rd oil change though.
If you believe in it, do it every time. Every time you change the oil with out doing it, you dilute, more and more. No like the oil you do on the third time, is from 3 oil changes ago.
If you do it regular, you keep diluting whatever is in sump.
To do it every third time sounds like you just want to use the gizmo you bought.
******
Also maybe it is good to keep some oil in their on start up. When I was a kid I would drain over night, I decided it was a waste of time, plus wondered if it is better to leave the oil in. Not a harley that you are draining from tank, but from something that you were draining from crankcase.
