Default Service quote...what would you guess?

What would you expect to pay, if you weren't going to do it yourself, for a full detailed service on a bike that you bought pre owned? Replacement of all fluids with Amsoil, except forks, and check of the entire bike to insure no surprises. I have a few quotes and they are all over the place so I was wondering if you can share your experience/best guesses.

Thanks

do it your self.. they will change half the oil, and call it done. but still charge a fortune for the service.

I paid about $200 for a 5,000 mile service and 10,000 mile service. I've been quoted $280 for the 5,000 and $340 for the 10,000 mile service from another dealer. By the way, that's for regular oil, not synthetic. So why the big differences in prices? It's like anything else - whatever the market will bear.

Unless I am going into the motor or it's electoral, I do all the work myself. 95 bucks for all three holes of Amsoil every 5k miles and I save a fortune

The only way I would pay someone else to do this is If I knew they were going to check EVERYTHING. It's all about trust. I have seen first hand that most "services" are performed by the trainees at the dealership. I would never pay someone else to work on my bike, but I'm a tech. Some people don't understand that there are riders that are not mechanically inclined. I agree that 350 sounds about right. Maybe you should ask for the techs credentials that is going to perform the service and inspection. There is no harm in doing that....

AS I am not a menchanic, and a very slow learner, I take swaps; like handle bars and the such to the INDY back home, but I have been doing my own regular service. Saving money for sure, but I find that I do not have the right tools for some of the jobs that I want to do, like torque wrenches and oil filter wrench. Bought the oil filter wrench and going to buy a good set of torque wrenches soon. I think over time and slowly I will get better, I just have mis-givings about the dealerships and all the bad things I hear. I trust my indy, and big jobs go to him, the small stuff I try to do and save a buck or two. I have done my own oil changes and saved a ton of bread and it is really not that hard. In addtion you get to know your bike a lot better, and you build confidence with knowledge.

20K service at my indy(which should cover what you asked) was $250 with Amsoil all around. Same service at the dealer was $510 before my discount (wife is employee of said dealership)

As you can guess, I took it to the indy....This was on a 2004 EGC
