Value of a 2000 Road King Classic?

Value of a 2000 Road King Classic?
I have been hanging out and learning lots of good things on this forum. I am a Moto Guzzi guy wanting to defect to Harley. It kills me to have to pay more than 10k for a bike. But, to my demise I have fallen for the Road King Classic. I have an opportunity to buy a local 2000 Road King Classic with 6000 miles on it. Not my favorite color but I can get it for $11,500. It's in great shape. Not detailed and ultra shiney like I would like but no blems really. What do you guys think? Good deal? Are there any valid reasons to avoid the 2000 model year? I really want a vivid black 04 but this might be a worthwhile compromise cause I'm financially challenged. It's amazing to me how guys are asking 13-17k for 00-04's.
Thanks

If it is of any comfort to you, I paid 16K for my Road King Classic with that many miles on it. It had leather tour pack, stage one, beach bars, adjustable back rest, new seat, and matching diamond plate boards, foot pegs, brake, grips, etc. There was one year left on the warranty. It has been a great motor with zero issues so far. It is black.
Call any credit union and see what they willgive you on a loan. They are somewhat accurate. Shop ebay and see what RKCs are going for. Kelly motorcycle bluebook is on line.It sounds like you found an almost new bike and the price seems fair to me. However, if you are going to spend big bucks, shouldn't you get the color you want?

I think 11k would be a fair price. The only real issues with a 2k is the possibility that it has the "weak rear cam" bearing in it. All 99's and some early 2k's had them. You can ask your dealer to run the motor number to see if it is one of those affected. HD put the weak bearing in them, learned of it, and then gave owners a 5 year/50k mile warranty on that part. I ran mine 52k with no problems before I updated and went to gear drive cams. If it happens to be an affected model, I'd just negotiate another 500 bucks off of the price and then use that money to do a cam swap.
Here are some differences in a 2000 over some other models.
- It will have a weaker swingarm design that sometimes will crack. Not a deal breaker, just be aware.
- It has the older MM injection instead of the newer Delphia that the '02-ups got. No big deal really, IMO.
- A 2000 with have a better crank bearing. The '03-up bikes got a weaker designed crank bearing.
- It will have 3:37 gearing compared to the 3:15 gearing of the '02-up bikes. This is a plus to me. Redlight to redlight, a 3:37 bike will eat up a similarly set up 3:15 bike every time.
- A 2000 will have air assist on the front shocks. That was dropped around 2002. This makes fork oil changes a 10 minute job. No diassemble required. Just use vacuum to suck the oil in.
