Default Deconstruct Smooth Push-Button Fuel Console Door Release

Does anyone know how to rip apart the Smooth Push-Button Fuel Console Door Release, #53919-04A, so I can get it powder coated? I rather not paint it. The button is metal, but the catch for the button is plastic.

Painted mine for the same reason 40k miles ago. Couldn't figure out how to get it apart. Looks like the day I put it on. It only gets a finger push every 200 miles... :-)

Lancemchn, thanks. I may paint it, but trying to coat it, if at all possible. Anyone else know how to rip this thing apart?

Why don't you just coat the top of it? I would think you could tape off the rest of it, but maybe not?

Good question. The latch is made of plastic and I am not sure that can be baked, but I am not a coater.

Yes I've taken it apart to get it powder coated, it never working the same afterwords, the plastic catch gets stuck and the top button spring doesn't want to pop back up half the time.
So what I did was buy another one, had the fuel console door powder coated separately, and just painted the release latch with a matching normal paint. (A kind you don't need to bake). I used a rattle can of VHT paint.

I have some VHT epoxy paint and based on your input above, that's what I will do! Thanks for your input!
