Default SAE or Metric?

I tried to search for a post from last week and couldn't find it. Someone asked what size socket to use on a certain nut or bolt. Some replies came back with a metric response and others came back with a SAE response. I've noticed some nuts and bolts seem to be metric and some SAE. Does HD use metric or SAE on their rides?

Thanks
Steve

The only metric bolts I know of are the two 10mm bolts that fasten the battery cables to the battery.

They use both. It is in possible to change front brake pads on 2004 RoadKing without having both SAE and Metric 12 point.

Those are the only two that I've found on my RG but I'm not saying there's not more.

You need a good assortment of tools to work on your HD anymore.[:@]

Good catch! You're right, that's a 12pt 10mm. The only metric in my tool bag is the 10mm wrench w/12point box on one end.

Just the battery I do believe. The Vrod is a different story though as I have no knowledge of them. It is easy to tell if it is a metric or standard though. The metric will have number for the strength and the standard will have markings like 3 markings mean it is a grade 5 bolt.

You can use some metric wrenches and SAE as the sizes are so close. You can use the 14mm instead of the 9/16 since the 14mm is a tighter fit. A 16mm is nearly identical as the 16mm. There are a few other sizes though close enough.

I had to dust off my SAE stuff to work on the EG, since 99% of what I work on is metric...

I know the 12 point hardware that holds the calipers on my EG are 10mm
