I got my first Harley in December 2012 I've always liked no windshield butthen never had one. Now my RK came with a quick release windshield and I loveit. I love the feel without the wind shield but there are times u know u willneed one. A fairing you can't take off like that.

That is the biggest thing that I miss about my Deluxe. Loved riding without the windshield.

Another awesome feature of the Road King is you have many options that are easily removable and you can tailor the bike to your needs or desires for the ride you will be taking. I have 3 different windsheilds, 2 seats, 3 sets of saddlebags, tourpack, backrests, soft lowers and will be getting a Batwing and hard lowers some day down the road.

I used to like to take my shield off but getting too old to get beat up by the wind.
I've been away all day and got home and spent the last hour looking at farings and MS looks to be the best deal on a none music one. I don't look at the MS as cheep when you add the windshield and the kit for quick detaching it's over $500. This is assuming the stock black faring will look good with my vivid black Harley.
Good advice so far and I will continue to research.

I like being able to see through my RKC windshield and won't even install a small bag there to avoid obstruction of my view. However, I think having the wind of your hands in the winter would be nice.

I like seeing the road right in front of my my bike and all the chrome would get covered up!! I vote windshield.

Pretty sure I got mine from a forum member for $300 including a short flip shield and mounting hardware. I bought MS fairing deflectors ($30) and another LRS shield. Check the classifieds here for folks that have upgraded. It has a glossy black finish and should look fine on your bike.

The longer the ride, and the higher the speeds the more you will appreciate a fairing.
Bat wing is best for most trips, however for ultra long rides at freeway speeds,(+5,000 miles +75 mph) riding single, the shark nose might be the best.

Medium distance and lower speeds, the windshield is enough protection and enough visability.

Short trips at lower speeds is where you can appreciate the nakid bike.

Most will pick either the one they think looks best, or will fit their riding events.

There is one for sale in the Multi-fit section right now. Painted red.
