We did Rocky Mountain National last year. Incredible ride. And this year the plan is to hit Aspen. So glad to hear it's a great ride. So jack-ed up for this, can't wait.

Having both a softail and touring, for the ride you anticipate I would definitely choose touring. And the cornering is better on the RK over the SG so I would choose the RK.
Many in the thread have mentioned tunes but in today's world tunes are easy, use your phone and a bluetooth earpiece and you're done. Also the rental place may have an RK unit with the Boom windshield speakers and if so get a bluetooth receiver ($20-30) from Amazon and use your phone on that. My Dad had a lifetime of Creds on a Road King, but I am a tech, and a Street Glide Man.
