Default HD cartridge install ?

Is it possible to install the HD premium dual cartridge #45500106 without all the special tools? Thinking about using them but not sure if it can be done without taking to the dealer. Has anyone attempted it and how did you make out and were you happy with them.

Yes, it can be done if you make your own spring compressor and damper rod extension or take the fork legs to HD and have them do the kit install and then you put them back on the bike to save a little $.

If you have not already bought them look at Progressive first. The Progressive Monotubes are the same thing as the HD , you are replacing stock dampers and springs with a sealed gas cartridge system. The Progressive are a breeze to install, no spring compressors needed , just drop in, ez install and good results.

Having done the HD Cartridge, I totally agree with Xaran! The Progressive Monotube install is a breeze and the ride is insane.

I had the monotubes on my 2000flht and wasn't happy with them, too stiff for my liking thats why I was thinking of the dual cartridge in hopes of softening the ride a little. My sg mow has 3k on it and was hoping the front would loosen up alittle after some break in but it still is stiff for my liking. I'm preety sure I can make the compressor, need too find the correct amount of oil required so I won't need the oil level tool. Thanks for responses.
