I dropped off my Limited this morning for the 10K service. Dealer calls to say bike is running extremely lean and the headers and pipes are gutted. Even though I told them about the headers and pipes when I dropped it off. And that I had an upgraded AC and Power Vision.
Does the dealer load up the standard Harley map at the 10K service? If they did, I can definitely see why it would be running lean.
If they didn't, would it be recommended that I reload the FM map and run the basic Auto Tune this weekend?
The bikes run extremely lean from Harley. Surprised they would think its running even more lean than that. I seriously doubt a dealer would remap anything. I assume you were running the FM map recommended by FM for your setup? Or did you change something and keep the same map?
Use the map provided by FM. I just have the HD headers and mufflers with the FM heavy breather that comes in the Power Vision package from them. It has been running great with their map so far. Gas mileage seems to be better and it is definitely cooler after removing the cat.
Not sure how the dealer would know it is running lean unless they ran a dyno on it, which is not likely and more on the end of NO WAY! Nothing that I can think of for a 10k service that would alert them to the bike running lean. Plugs aren't even on the maintenance schedule to check and replace at that interval, but if they did pull the plugs and look at them , they may have determined you are running lean by the coloration on the plugs. If that is the case, may want to check your tune. If you are just running the base map that FM provides, you DO still need to further tweak your tune by running the Autotune Basic. The bike will seem to run fine with FM's canned map (mine did with a similar configuration to yours), but you still need to further tweak your tune to get it right. My base map from FM had my cruise range AFR's at 14.4, which is not as lean as stock, but still fairly lean, so you may need to work with it some.
Go to the Powervision sticky in the Tech forum. There is a lot of good advice there. I would further question the dealer as to how they determined the bike is running lean. May help you figure out where to go from there. They may be trying to sell you something you don't need-like a Stage 1 flash.
Most dealers change your plugs at each service. The tech probably read the plugs and did his job. They usually test ride as well. Glad they caught it for ya. And No they will not just download a map without your approval
I got the bike this evening and they showed me the plugs. Could see how they were beaten up from running lean. They wanted me to buy the dyno tune and HD tuner from them for almost $1K. The guy said the power vision would damage my bike and I should get rid of it. If I get a dyno, it will not be from the dealer.
I searched and could not find an answer to this. How long time wise or how far should I run the auto tune? It appears most people run it a couple of times. And I am not sure if I should do both city and highway, I hate city riding.
im sorry but after all the up grades ,pv5 power duels ,high out puts stage 1 air filter . my bike is finally not running lean ,my mileage went down from about 41 to 35 . so im happy now its running great , I think if you want 45 mpg,s your,s is running lean . and I did not buy my 2011 with the 103 for mileage ,. and the power vision is one the best add on . call fuel moto they will fix it . ,and are your pipes black at the end or clean . pull your plugs .are they pure white or tan .

I wonder if they know that DYNOJET manufactures the DYNO machine they use and the PowerVision they are dissing?

THe dealer said the PV would "damage" you bike... what a load of horse hockey that is. They just wanna sell you a HD Uber tuner and then charge you some dyno time. RUN AWAY FROM THOSE GUYS .....
