Default Wiring question

I have an 06 FLHTI,I removed the front of the fairing yesterday to install a pair of Street Glide mirrors. There are 2 wires in the head light harness, not hooked to anything.A black one, which I assume is a ground, and an orange/white,with a red cap over the connector.Does any one know what these wires are for? Thanks for your help on here...its a great forum.
ps....the layout of the wiring was terrible...one bundle of wires nearly had a hole chaffed through the fairing.

...not connected to anything on mine either.. maybe for CB.. anyway while you have fairing off move air temp sensor. I moved mine to as far as wire would reach..drilled hole on metal bar going off towards speaker and jusy popped sensor off and snapped into new hole.. went riding today and it was dead on.. a lot of guys are adding enough wire to get it outside of fairing but, moving appears to work andI didn't have to cut and splice wires..then again would be good time to just switch out to oil temp guage.

Position lamp (HDI only) or if you don't have a fendertip light it could be that also

As already stated these are for a lamp in HDI models. Not used in the US. The black is ground and the other is accessory power. I used them on my bike for plug in power for my GPS unit.

the orange white strip is just an extra power wire for runnig lights and or HDI as above..
In my manual it indicates running light power or fendertip power.
But either way it is just an extra power wire.
The red cap is a protector against grounding out.
My 01 has it also
black is ground

I've seen them on my 99 and 04 and always wondering what they were for, thanks from me too. But i'm wondering more about moving that temp sensor, where exactly is it?

just checked my service manual wiring diag - as stated above O/W&BK = HDI only

temp sensor isa little box looking mod attached on part of the inner bracket close to temp guage... follow the blue/Viol wire from the back of the temp guage and it will let you to it

One reason these service manuals are worth their weight in Gold

Propane peddler: The air temp is a little white plastic box about 1 inch cubed
(maybe a little smaller0.
On my 01 flhtci power wire is BLUE ( but it's not really power)
Gauge is supplied power, then ground side of gauge (blue)goes to
the temp sensor module and it in turn regulates the ground
black is ground
mounted on or near the left fairing support.
Ideally it needs access to outside air to read accurately.
air inside fairing is too stagnant and warm.

For everybody else: Yes on the HDI but that is because you are looking at a wiring
shematic for the headlight area. do a little more reading of the schematic and you
will find that HD uses the orange /white tracer elsewhere in the system as a power wire
that is energized (means turned on) when the ignition switch is turned on.
For example it is also used in the tail light area (again HDI), to the stop light switchand in mine (01flhtci) to pin 12 (accessory ) on the speedometer.

BTW what doe HDI stand for, I thought is was a type of headlight.
but my book has a note that tour packs don't have side running
lights when you have an HDI bike?
Thus supplying power where needed for whatever accessory it is hooked into.

I installed the garage door opener kit on my 06 FLTRI. You use the orange/white when hooking up the transmitter in the fairing. The O/W runs to many areas (cigarette lighter, handgrips, etc.) since it is just a 12v power line throughout the bike.
