I have the low profile chrome aluminum laced wheels on my '12 Road King. I do my best to keep the dirt and grime off with soap and water and a wash rag, but can't reach all parts. A long handled brush helps.Rotors on front wheel and rotor/sprocket on rear wheel prevent access with hands. I don't know how you could get a protective coating on spokes unless maybe some kind of spray applicator. I love the look of the laced wheels, but cleaning.........

I stay away from the harsh chemicals. stay with simple green and a soft wheel brush that i can wipe the spokes with...i love the classic look but the white walls ans spokes require patience!

Had stainless steel spokes and nips on my Shovel. Very easy with some never dull once per year and a good coat of wax. Different story on my Dyna which was chrome spokes with cast nips. Had to work hard to keep the looking good with Simple Green and a brush, plus polishing with never dull or Flitz.

"Luster Lace Spoke Cleaning Laces". Put that into google to see what it is, and it works well but takes time and is fiddley.

Hate cleaning spoked wheels.

There are some laces that have cleaner coated on them. I found that they wear out quickly. While somewhat tedious, and not every time I wash the bike, I use really long shoe laces like a sponge or rag - wet and wash the spokes after spraying spokes with wheel cleaner. I have 8 yr old Ultra with rolled chrome wheels that look showroom fresh - after 60k miles.
