Cruise control very touchy

I have an '07 RK, with the factory HD cruise control. When I try to set it, most times it fails to set. However, if I hold the throttle in place for a few seconds after setting it, and then I'm VERY gentle in removing my hand from the throttle, it'll hold. The indicator lights are working like they should, so I don't think it's a problem with the module. It seems more like an issue with throttle cable tension. Has anyone else had a similar issue? Any tips on adjusting the tension?

There is a procedure for adjusting the cable lash. I don't have it here on my phone though, sorry.

Yeah, I guess my next purchase should be a Service Manual. Thanks.

The problem is probably in the roll off switch.

You can proceed at you own risk and disconnect the roll off switch and see if that cures the problem.
Otherwise a lash adjustment may be all you need.

Well, I disconnected one of the leads on the roll off switch, and took it for a spin. It's a little bit better, but still very touchy. I checked the brake lights, they are not sticking. I haven't tried the cable lash adjustment yet. Do you think that might do it?

I wouldn't think it should make any difference! the switch is unhooked it should have no affect on the cruise now.
Next thing I would check is how sensitive the front brake switch is.

You might try #2 in this post to see what if any codes are stored. ( I do not know if the procedure for 07s is the same as this but it won't hurt to try it.)

I had the same problem with my 07 Street Glide. had it thoroughly checked out by my Indy and it was a bad module. All switches etc. were ok, just the module was intermittent.

Have someone follow you and see if your brake light flickers when you hit bumps.
