HOG is useless! $637 to tow 74 miles, WTF!
In a nutshell I rode out from Las Vegas, NV heading to Zachary, LA and made it 1700 miles to Simmesport, LA before I got a flat tire. Right when it started pouring buckets of rain. Bummer, but hey $hit happens.
So I limped about 2 blocks to a small truck stop and call HOG who called a tow truck to tow me to the nearest Harley dealership which is in Baton Rouge, only 74 miles away. HOG tells me they'll pay $100 with my membership and I'm responsible for the difference. The tow guy quoted them $400, so I have to pony up $300? Then he calls me directly and gives me this BS story about how he seriously misquoted HOG so I'm thinking here comes a reasonable tow charge. Turns out his actual charge is $637 but, get this, the ars#$@hole tells me he rides as well and will honor the $400 quote he gave HOG. Eff this dude.
A quick call to Harley in Baton Rouge and they'll come get me in the morning and will only cost about $160. Needless to say I was shocked that a Harley dealership would be cheaper than anyone, let alone nearly 4x LESS expensive.
So what good is HOG membership? They won't shop a reasonably priced tow company and because I did not go through them to locate a "tow company" they won't cover the $100 their obligated to when I found a better price elsewhere. WTF!

I had a complimentary H.O.G. membership when I bought my Road Glide. I went on vacation that summer and decided to rent a bike while I was out of town and used the membership on the rental. The discount was NOT really that big of a discount.... so I never renewed it when it expired. I just couldn't see any real value in it.

I got my membership with a 2013 Street Glide I bought back in June of 2013 and traded in the '13 for a '14 a couple months later so got another year membership through 2016. First time I "need" them it turns out they are completely useless so I sure as hell won't be renewing membership either!

HOG does only pay $100.00 but 600 to tow 74 miles is bullshit I have had to be towed twice the first time I called HOG the total bill was $150 they paid the first $100 I turned the other 50 into my insurance and got reimbursed for it. The second time I called the dealer that the bike was going to and asked them if they had a tow company they recommend which they did. It was a motorcycle tow co. picked up my bike towed it to the dealer which the dealer added to my warranty cost me nothing. If you have the tire and road hazard warranty won't cost you nothing for tow or tire replacement.

Last time I blew a tire 4 hours from home, I called Man 'O War Harley in Lexington, Kentucky...
They sent their own van, with lift, picked me and the bike up, and took us to the dealer where I got my brand-new-free-of-charge tire.
The bad part was the tire they replaced had less than two thousand miles on it....

Cancelled mu HOG a few years ago. Had a nail in my rear tire in Northern VT and nearest dealer was about 75 miles away. They helped with a tow and finding a dealer, but I still ended up paying about $275 dollars for flat bed. Now I use CoachNet. Covers my motorhome and all other vehicles in our household including bike. No mileage limits.

My insurance covers towing, so anything else is redundant.
