I know V&H had some issues in the past with head pipes and poor o2 sensor placement and depth but to my knowledge and reading, that has been corrected.
Any idea when that was corrected? How much was changed?
firmware updates have had to be applied to the blue boxes for FR and other things present and future so to answer your question, no it won't work for you with the black box.
