Dealer checked for leaks, and we also did that yesterday with the brake cleaner blast at the joints on the intake. ECM has been cleaned and re-seated a few times.

But the 02 sensors might need cleaning and a little dielectric added. Good thought. I don't know if the dealer did that.

I'm going over to his place tonight and we're going to re do everything the dealer did.

Sounds like a Crank Position Sensor.

Bad frame ground? That has been known to cause all kinds of crazy chit.

Would that do an intermittent error?

It does seem to only happen when the bike gets up to full operating temperatures. The first time I helped him with this, we had to ride for like an hour before it bumped.

That's 2 votes for the crank sensor. Easy enough to throw an O-scope on it.

That gets added to the list to check.

He better have ice cold beer, and pizza in his garage when I get there.

Just got home from working on his bike.

Crank position sensor was fine

ECM connection was cleaned and dielectric added lightly.

TCA connector cleaned and dielectric added......... That's where things went south.

First run engine ran like crap....... re-seated the TCA connector, and got limp mode..... re-seated it again, and it ran OK..... re-seated it again and got limp mode again. Kept playing with it until it ran OK so he could ride.

The culprit is, it's a crap connector and needs to be replaced.

More likely a broken wire near the connector? Regardless, will probably need that wire/connector assy replaced to get a solid repair...

Sometimes it's one bump, other times it can be 2 or 3 in a row.

Sometimes the bump is so violent that it kicks off his cruise control.

It sometimes just does it once, then doesn't happen for quite a while. Other times it happens often. But always at around 2500 RPMs. His definition of once in a while is between 15 minutes and 45 minutes.

All of the connectors associated with throttle have been cleaned by his dealer, and dielectric grease applied. It's not gas, since it's been going on since last fall.

I'm thinking Throttle Position Sensor, but his dealer says they have never had to replace an Induction Module on a touring bike since they changed the design. I'm thinking they are wrong.

I told my friend that some of you are freaking geniuses....... don't make a liar out of me.
My prediction is the TBW (twist grip sensor) in the handlebar. It has a bad spot in it.

Well, there you go, guess I'm not Gypsy fortune teller!

Nope. It does it when the cruise is on. TBW is out of the control loop while using cruise.
