20k in a transmission is way way to long. i dont care if its a sealed unit. Gears grind and mesh and wear. I dont care what the manual says and 10k on a clutch pack is ridiculous. Clutch plates wear big time and contaminants are washed into the oil.

I'm late to the party but if someone runs across this thread there are reasons modern oils you can be changed to often. As to racing applications they are different, a lot of engines are torn down each race so they use fresh oil on reassembly not to mention if race specific oil is used they don't contain the same if any additives as "street" oil knowing the oil will be replaced after each tear down.
Now the reason modern "street" oil can be changed to often is today's modern oil has improved additive packages designed to be run longer intervals. Included in these additives are detergents designed to last for the extended intervals. While oil properties can change with use the additive package plays a major role inn protecting the engine will be eventually be used up. The additive package starts with "to much" additive, near mid life the package is close to ideal and near the end of its life it is reduced from ideal but still acceptable. The reason to avoid to frequent oil changes is when new the "excessive" detergent can strip the protective lubricating properties of oil off of the various metal surfaces. Dirty looking oil shows the additive package is doing its job and absorbing the contaminants produced by the engine allowing it to be carried to the filter and drained out when changed. Of course the reason to change it on time even without the recommended miles is to prevent water and acids from separating and causing damage to surfaces where these layers form over time. This separation of oils and acids is also the reason to change your fluids at the end of the season (if you put your ride up) instead of the beginning of the season.

Now reading this thread was a great laugh, even if it was 4.5 yrs ago! haha

3k is ok for changing dino engine oil. Though it won't hurt anything, changing the trans and primary every 3k is wasteful. Only exception might be in you race or ride dirt roads often.

I change all 3 holes every weekend. I also change the air in my tires and all the headlight, tail light, and turn signal bulbs when I do the oil. Can't be too careful, you know! LOLOL

Probably be a good idea to change all fluids after EVERY ride...........:icon_saywhat:
