Default Rebuiling a starter. I have an extra piece.

I pulled off my starter from my 05 RK. A part fell off and I didn't see where it came from? Can anyone tell where it goes?

It fits on the shaft two ways. 1. it can go all the way onto the shaft where it slides all the way to the base of the shaft. 2. It can go on the shaft with gap from the shaft. Anyone know the proper way this coupling goes back on?

03 manual says "With the counterbore on the outboard side, install the coupling on the starter motor output shaft" Mike

Cool buy a harley parts catalog!

the nice thing about a harley parts catalog is it gives you an idea of how the part goes together! buy a service manual! if the bike is worth owning it's worth having the factory tech information! cheers from montana

every time one of my buds has something tore apart like this, I try to slip some weird item in his parts pile; then watch as they try to figure out where that extra part (i.e. small bracket from a Maytag washing machine) goes...

No, it's not extra! #1 is correct. You need to purchase a HD Service Manual.
