Drivers backrest
Hey I'm about to go on a 3500 mile ride and I'm looking at backrests. I don't want to spend the money on a drivers backrest AND a passenger backrest. I'd rather have the drivers backrest but I still need a way to strap a backpack and a full face helmet to the backseat.
My question is can I strap it to the back of the drivers backrest or are they too short? If so, will a cargo net over my bag/helmet on the backseat keep everything secure enough where it wont scratch the paint?
Just looking for ideas, Both saddle bags will most likely be full and I DONT want a tour pack.
Anyone have any pictures of their setups?
Thanks

if you have the typical Harley drivers backrest, it will be too short for a tall bag to strap to. I would pack the helmet in the back pack ( or use a bigger luggage bag) and strap it down with a cargo net type set up. you just need to make sure the bag doesn't shift to one side. as far as the paint........ put a soft towel under the bag ( secure the towel to perhaps the bottom of the back pack)
Or get a passenger backrest and put the bag on the passenger seat and use it as the drivers backrest. I think either way would work. The drivers backrest would probably be more comfortable long term though.
Gonna take a NC - CA trip end of summer as well with a couple buds. I don't have a pic but I have the HD Overnight bag and a T-Bag luggage.
I'm using the overnight bag for my FF helmet, rain gear, extra gloves, and readily accessible stuff. That will go on the rear rack. The T-Bag will go on the passenger seat against the passenger backrest and serve as my backrest. If you need a driver backrest, you can pack that in the luggage if need be. I also use the overnight bag as my daily trunk for now.
