Question reverse help

Backed my 2016 tri glide out of the garage using reverse about 50feet to work on headlight alignment when finished I put bike in reverse I could hear it engage but bike will not move put in 1st to disengage then let out the clutch could hear the reverse motor turning then disengage the bike goes forward fine ran it 10 miles then tried reverse on a more level area it engages moves the bike back about a quarter of an inch then stops moving.
Acts like the motor is not getting enough power I can not hear it running

Any ideas what's wrong
Thanks
Mike

Its a 2016 . Take it to the dealer and let them fix it under warranty. Reverse motors are not cheap.

The easiest thing to check is to see if it tripped the breaker under the right side cover. It can easily be reset if that's the problem. Its happened to me more than once on my 2015.

Tripped the breaker. Take off right side cover. Look for breaker, metal lever on bottom of breaker needs reset and red button on top. Do not use reverse for long backing. Go a little ways and pause, then go again.

My guess would be that at the end of your initial 50 foot back-up you stopped the trike using a brake (front or rear) while the reverse motor was still engaged. That is a romper room no no and will trip the reverse breaker every time. I believe that what you are hearing and calling the reverse motor engaging is only the solenoid engaging and moving the reverse motor into "engaging" position and not the motor itself starting.

thanks guys, it was the breaker. I over thunk it, because it was trying to work. Must be some Electrical back feed when the breaker pops.
cheers

Default Trike reverse repair

Hi all wanted to update or just report on a problem on my 2011 Tri Glide. Reverse motor went out last fall at the end of riding season. Took it to the dealer and after two weeks of testing determined it was the motor, no crap. Needed the bike for one last run so I picked it up and went the weekend with no reverse, not a big problem. Dealer said new motor was about $1200 plus labor, decided to wait till I was done riding for the season. Well checked the forum and found a post about a place in New Jersey called Middlesex Armature Service, call back in November and talked with Ken, said they could do it for a max of $175, what a deal. Fast forward to this past Monday, called Ken again and he remembered me and said to send it to him. Pulled motor off in about 30 minutes boxed it up and sent it USPS that day and got a call from Ken this morning motor was done and after paying over the phone $211.25 ($175.00 repair $12.25 tax + shipping 1year warranty it’s on its way back to Oklahoma and should have it installed by Tuesday. So just wanted to let anyone with reverse problems give them a call or if you live close stop in and see Ken, great guy…Have a safe riding season!

Just about any shop that rebuilds electric motors can rebuild the Harley reverse unit. Most decent sized cities have more than one. No need to send it across the country.
