Tri-Glide Issues
#311
I live off a dirt/rock road and last week, only going about 10 MPH, almost dropped my bike after hitting one of the hundreds of rocks in the road. Hurt my ankle saving my bike. Went thru this whole thread and decided it's time for three wheels. Will be going to the dealers soon!!!
Question: Should I get the 7 year warrenty? LOL

Being a fellow shovel owner I don't think you need the extra warrenty, should have Tri to ride and shovel to work on. A LOT OF tri owners can't wait for their two year warrenty to expire so they can modifiy them any way ( me included). Like suggested before just put the extra money in a account if needed.

Extended warranty is a tough choice, if you get a stinker the extended warranty can be a great thing. Since my dad has owned his 09 Triglide he has had the start button short out 3 times, the front wheel bearings go, the rear O2 sensor go bad. The front wheel bearing replacement, the 2nd and 3rd time the start button shorted was under extended warranty. The 2nd time his start button shorted it resulted in being stranded for 3 days 1,000 miles from home waiting for the dealer to open. The warranty paid for a good deal of the hotel stay.

Just my 2 cents, I've had the 7 year warrentee on my last 3 Harleys. The first one on an 03 Ultra. Paid for itself 2 times over. Next was on my 2010 Limited - had it transfered to my 2012 Tri Glide. The reason being, is my company may be closing any month now and being 68 years old and no job offers at my age, I figured if something DOES go wrong, I'll be able to get it fixed for at least another 7 years(it's making some funny clicking noises in the rear now, oh-oh). I also bought the VIP maintainence program that pays for everything for the next 3 years and I get a free new rear tire and brake pads toward the end.
So, bottom line is, I have at least 3 full years where I have absolutely no worries about being able to ride. To me it's worth the peace of mind - and I can afford it now.
It just seams to be a lot more stress on the TG then a regular bike.
You younger fellows are not in the same boat I'm in and have lots of disposable income so it's up to you on wheather to get it or not and if you are mechaniclly inclined - I'd forget about it.
