Default rear ride height revisited

just brought 2011 back home from dealer. the bike was sitting 1" low on the left side. dealer removed body and adjusted rear frame that bolts on near shock tower. bike sits level now. dealer stated rear frame has a lot of adjustment.

Were the bottoms of the fenders even on both sides before this adjustment?

no. i took a tape measure and measured from bottom of fender to level ground. the left side sat approx 1 inch lower. now both fenders are even.

For you guys that have level fenders, how far to the floor are your fenders from the bottom? It would be interesting to see what your measurements are. I know after the body and fenders were reinstalled after the repaint I'm 9 1/4" on the left and 10 1/2" on the right or thereabouts. We went out two up on Friday for a bit and the bike runs straight hands off the bars on serveral different roads, so I do not think it's a frame problem.

Here's another measurement you can take... Measure the clearance from the inside of the fender well on both sides, at the top of the cutout, to the sidewall of the tires and compare. On my 2011 the left gap measures 1 1/16" and the right measures 9/16". Split the difference and it's about 1/4" off center. My left side also sits about 1/4" lower than the right with the measurement taken off hard level ground to the frame members on both sides and not just at the fender cutouts.

I don't think a 1/4" is that big of a deal, but if nothing else it sure is indicative of sloppy workmanship. I've also found a few loose bolts while working on the bike, most notably those holding the bank angle sensor (while attaching my adjustable backrest) and found the bolts only engaged by a couple of threads. It was just hanging there loose.

I've got a good mind to take it in and have them adjust out that 1/4" for no other reason than principle alone, but I probably won't since it doesn't seem to affect anything other than my knowing that it's there.

Buddy
Both fenders are exactly 9.5 inches from the concrete floor in the garage.
