Tri Glide without Mods?
#2
Mine was that way for 1,000 miles until last week. I thought it was quite acceptable, and was what I expected after my test ride. My recent upgrades to exhaust, A/C, Cams, Tuner were my choice to get the trike to go from a capable cruiser to a screamer. My only point of negative was the heat from the catalytic converter, as it was uncomfortable at long stops in warm weather...but not intolerable.

We have two virtually stock tri-glides. An '09 and '11. No tuners, Catalytic converter intact, 30,000 miles on the '09, 10,000 on the '11. They don't run any hotter than the '08 E-Glide I traded, or the '09 Deluxe my wife rode before getting sick and needing the trike. Last time I talked about my stock trikes I got flamed, so I'll leave it at that.

My '12 is bone stock and not unpleasant to ride, temp's here in the Midwest have been pretty high lately.
I have yet to get caught in high traffic, however can feel the heat while stopped at traffic lights. I just put the right foot out on the highway peg while stopped and all is good. My GF hasn't complained about the heat except when she's wearing sandals (when she's wearing tennis shoes all is good).

Ya just have to remember you have a lot more weight to shove down the road so the acceleration isn't as strong as a two wheeler and the motor likes to be kept more on the powerband to perform well .
Braking is decent but then again more weight.
They are a nice ride.
I like to leave my stuff stock more for reliability than anything else. I find it easier to keep the revs up and get acceptable performance than to add a lot of expensive stuff to a machine just to pick up a few horses that I don't need most of the time.

I've got 8K on a stock 11 XXX with no mods. Its hot on long trips (especially in the mountains), but not unbearable. I had an 09 TG with slip-ons, stage 1, and a race tuner (also ran synthetic oil) and the mods didn't cool it down much. The 09 wasn't as hot as the 11 XXX though. For the money I spent on the 09 TG mods I didn't feel I got much of a return.
I just came back from a 1100 mile roadtrip in the mountains with 93-98 degree temperatures and the XXX ran at 275 degrees on the I-40 doing 80-85 MPH. I stopped at damn near every rest area to coolt it down (and drink water).
