I rode to Anchorage last year and had 3x 1 gallon cans of premium in the trunk along with a small compressor and cans of flat fix as part of my 'survival' gear and will throw in a gallon if Im making a log rode trip 'locally'...more to insure I got premium if its not at the station you stop at.

Whoever carries fuel, just please make sure it is in a non vented, airtight container. If you smell fuel in the trunk find out why, & cure it !

I'm sure every realises a non vented cantainer builds up pressure and in excessive heat could create a problem.

I would never have the gas container in the trunk. The trunk can get pretty hot in direct sunlight over time.

I carried a 2 gallon container, completely empty, on the TP Rack for over 4000 miles. If I had seen a stretch of road that looked like there might not be a gas station I would have filled it up.

BTW, i travel one up quite a bit on my Sporty with a 3.3 gallon tank. When I am hammering out interstate miles I can go almost as many miles on it as I can on the TG with a 6 gallon tank.

Yes they can do that. What I do is leave a small amount of air space so when I close the cap, squeeze the air almost out & tighten the cap. It gives the container some expansion room. also I have never had a pressure problem, but I guess there is the possibility.
