Barbara,
There is a switch in the clutch now that prevents starting in gear unless the clutch is pulled in. Your switch may be bad, or if you had your controls worked on the switch may have been broken or disloged.

I had the clutch pulled in and in gear....wouldn't start until I put in neutral.

Is there anything about it in the owners manual? If there is a quirk like that that makes a new model different from previous models usually they document it.
I had the same thing with my 2010 Tri-Glide. I turned out to be the leather thingy on my grips. It was keeping the clutch lever from hitting the switch. Once I took it off, all was good.
If you had the clutch pulled in and it would not start, I would guess there is a problem with the switch. Since it is a new trike, your dealer should fix under warranty

Im with Bill, most likley switch, let dealer fix it.
BUT- it looks like you have leather fringe on levers so as YumaJack said it could be that ( i had same problem with leather fringe on my frankenbob) . you could remove it and try to start the TG.
