Amsoil 20w50 or amsoil 60wt
I need to change the oil tomorrow in preparation tor a weeklong trip.
Leaving Tuesday morning, 9th to ride up to Michigan for a granddaughter's wedding on the 13th. Then leaving Michigan Monday morning 15th, have to be back home to work and to baby sit the neighbors dogs while they go on vacation on the 17th.
I have both Amsoil 20w50 and Amsoil straight 60wt oil in the garage. Hot summertime heat long hours extended 4 lane. which oil would you use? Why?
Thanks
Ken

I would only run the 60wt when in the desert temps over 100* all the time.
A few are running 20/60wt. That would be better than the 60wt.
Just my opinion.......

This is what the HD Manual says regarding oil weights.
If you know it will always be 80 or above when you're riding before the next oil change, then I would run the straight 60 weight.
btw, one of the biggest complaints that some HD riders have is blow-by dripping out of their air cleaner. One of the biggest reasons this happens is that people don't run the weight oil that HD recommends for the temps they are riding in.

I'm late to respond and thank everyone for their input on this but do appreciate every ones thoughts. I ended up deciding to use the 60 wt. My thoughts were that there was going to be a lot of long interstate speed miles and very few cold start heat cycles on this trip. Road 840 miles Tuesday on the trip up, then finished the trip Wednesday morning, about 300 miles more. Only problem was a upper motor mount bracket bolt came out somewhere along the route. Noticed it at a fuel stop, so GPS'ed Ace hardware, there was one 60 miles up the road so went and bought the bolt and a stack of washers to replace the spacer that fell out with the bolt. Put them in in the parking lot and rolled on. Came home Monday, 1140 miles and no issues except for the constant rain the last 200 miles . All together 2652 miles. Only 28.5 MPG average and I rode with the cruise set at 71 MPH. I do have my speedometer corrected using the Power Vision tuner to match my GPS indicated speed. It was off 14%, setting was 2206 and its now 2518, so speedometer indicated 71 would be 81 on a not corrected stock speedometer. I'll see if I can find some Redline 20/60 for this oil change as it does sound like the best of both worlds. If I can't find any today I'll go with the Amsoil 20/50.
Thanks everyone...........
