Finally got a Shovelhead.

Welcome from Louisiana!
Have a few shovels myself and it was all I rode for 1st 30 years of my street riding, other than the added 900 Ninja durring my military days.
Actually traded the Ninja for an added Shovel shortly after getting out of military (was then a family man).
The Shovel is a GREAT machine and it was truly so many that "thought" they were all mechanics back in the day that gave the Shovel a bad name!
Stick with the S&S shorty, I assume is on her for sure!
Lots of folks on here can help you out for sure!

Greetings! I am new to Harley Davidson officially. Unofficially, I own a Buell, so I have been around HD for a little while.
I just turned 50 and decided, "'Cause I deserve it!", I bought a '76 FLH. It needs TLC but I love tinkering and wrenching. I am from the Kingston area of Ontario, Canada. I 192.168.100.1 192.168.1.1 can't stand the current leadership in Canada. Trudeau is a narcissist extraordinaire but otherwise, love the beauty and people of Canada.
I will be starting a thread on my resto-mod project.
Glad to be among such a knowledgeable group as I start working on the '76.
Pics of bike to follow as I am having trouble uploading.

Welcome to the Forum, and to the Shovelhead Club! Be sure to introduce yourself on the Shovelhead subforum. Super chill bunch over there who are very generous with their deep collective knowledge. My wife’s family is all in the Hamilton / Dundas area. Always have a great time when I’m up there.
Cheers

Thanks for all the love.
I know this machine needs lots of TLC but there is a lot that is still original on it. This bike will have to be pried from my cold dead hands as I will never sell it. One of the most exciting moments of my motorcycling life was when I finally held the ownership in my hands.
I just can't decide to repaint, restore... or leave it with "patina". It's not pressing as my first task is to go through system by system and makes sure everything is working. I want to hear it run.
1. Change oil
2. Rebuild/confirm fuel system. The tank is filthy with rust. Carb is plugged.
3. Rebuild/confirm ignition. Kick it over and run it.
4. Rebuild/confirm starter and charging system.
5. Everything else (like brakes, suspension, and then peripheral lights etc).
Hope this is a good road map to get started. I am very excited to get working on it. Just need this rotten winter to end!
