Default Northern Indiana Newbie

Droppin in to say Hi and introduce myself. I live 5 miles from the University of Notre Dame (GO IRISH), and looking for a place to ask questions and will openly take (good) advice! LOL
I sold my FLX years ago and just recently aquired a 1978 XL. I'm riding it now but gearing up to redo it.

Ride safe & Shoot straight!

I'm glad you asked,
I need to rid a primary cover oil leak, I'm changing the gas tank. I have a 3.3 gal. peanut tank I'm going to use, replacing the rear fender (the original has extra unGODly holes drilled in it, and to paint it black. I'm going to recover a stock 1973 Sporster seat. A neighbor lady worked for Avanti years ago and I'm going to have her do someting custom with the the seat. I just haven't decided what, yet. New brake pads, liners and R&P wheel & fork bearings.

It would be nice to be able to post a picture of what it looks like now, and hopely be nice enough for the Galley when I wrap it up.

This is what I'm starting with...

Looks like you have a pretty nice foundation to start with...

I'm thinking of keeping it somewhat stock for now.
I am going with a bigger gas tank for sure!

How many miles can you go on a tank full?

I've not checked it, what I do know I've piced up a NOS 3.3gal. peanut tank from a guy I grew up with. He had a 73 & 74 Sportster before going to a Classic softtail springer.

I'm looking for some original antique color schemes.
I'm thinking about 2-toneing the tank and going with vintage tank emblems.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
