Default 1996 Super Glide rear tire

Hi guys, I'm new to the site and new to Harley's so I apologize if this has been beat to death but I'm trying to figure out how big of a rear tire I can get on a stock wheel for my bike. I just recently purchased it and it needs some new rubber. Now everything I'm reading says they put a bigger belt on them starting in 2000? So max tire in a 140. Or can I get a 150 under it. Stock size 130. Again sorry if it's been beat to death. Any help would be great.

If you have the stock 1 1/2" wide belt then the widest you MAY be able to fit is a 140. Be aware that the width of any tyre is only nominal, not actual, also that actual width can differ between brands, so clearance is not guaranteed. When doing that to my 1990 bike the only way I could get a 140 in (measured 139mm wide) was by removing the rubber curtain on the inside of the belt guard.

Later bikes have a narrower belt, not a wider one, which may permit a 150/80 to be used, but that requires a lot of effort to do. I suggest you post in the Evo section in future, where you can meet fellow Evo owners.

You should be able to fit a 150 paying attention to the belt to tire clearance. To continue using the 1-1/2" belt, you may need a small pulley spacer to keep it from getting too close and may need to mod or remove the debris guard.

Your fender should have enough side clearance a long as you aren't lowering the bike...too much.

I'm going to put a 150 on my 99 softail...I plan on ordering the 1/4" pulley spacer because I know it's tight already. If I ever need to pull the primary I'll go to the skinny belt an pulley an make room for a 160 on a 4.25" wheel.

Wink

You can only move the pulley away from the wheel as far as you have clearance with the swingarm. I didn't find it possible to get enough clearance with my 150 tyre, which measured 153mm wide when fitted to the wheel. I do now have a Deuce wheel and 160/70....

Well, then it's a good thing he has "1996 Super Glide" instead of a FLH isn't it...more room for a pulley spacer
