If any bearing has siezed enough to create that kinda heat to crack an axle that would be really bad. You could try to float some Lock-Tite retaining compound in the outer races when installing new bearings and I do it all the time at work with machinery but never on 2 wheels and with my lihe on the line. Not quite sure you realize the possible outcome you could be faced with here. More than likely if the the outer races are turning in hub YOU NEED a new wheel.
Not at all, I appreciate everyone's input and the eduction.. I'm trying to visualize what you're saying though and how that comes into play with the wheel itself.. so no components of the bearing are rotating now.. as in the inner race would be rotating around the axle if I put it in as is (which i won't). But seems like new bearings would fix that ? How affect the wheel itself ? More research for me. And yes have to track down a service manual. Harley dealer wouldn't sell me one

When you said whole bearing rotates around finger screwed me up I guess. This is pretty simple if inner race is not spinning freely replace bearings. If outer race is spinng in hub replace wheel or hub if it's laced and re-spoke.I apologize for being so critical but when it comes to front wheels it needs to be perfect. The cracked axle has me a little worried not sure if it's really cracked that would be a wierd one without a bearing seizure. If your tire was chopped up a bit or cupped it could have been an indication of a bearing going bad and that was it. One of my laced front rims slipped in the tire changer and ended up egging the wheel and didn't notice till about 45mph and it wanted to throw me off the bike. Make sure you follow manual on how to re-install so no side load on bake pads have made that mistake before. Good Luck

My bet is that the outer race is not turning but the rubber seal is.. This is the way the 1 inch and 3/4 inch sealed bearings work. Don't worry about it. 2008 they went to a 6205 sealed bearing where the seal is attached to the outer race instead of the inner race.

His 2007 Deuce (Softail) has 6205 bearings...Softails started using them in 2007 on the Front only and then followed in 2008 with the rear

That's why he has 2007 ONLY Deuce front axle

Update for all.. replaced the bearings and finally had time to assemble everything today. Bought a craftsman torque wrench and got home to find it had the drive completely sheared off.. so another small set back. Won't be buying one of those again. Tried avoiding the 300$ for a snap on but I guess you get what you pay for.. so once I get a new torque wrench, I can finally torque to spec and be on my way.. thanks for all the help and tips!!

Ps attached is the pic of the old axel with the crack I mentioned.. can't tell how deep it runs.
