Default Modify 2001 and earlier wheel to accept 1" axle shaft

Anybody modified (bored out, drilled) an earlier wheel center to allow 1" axle shaft/bearing spacer to fit? I believe the center hole size needs to be 1-5/16". Any advice on doing this? My goal is to fit a 2002 and later swingarm with 1" ID bearing to my 2001 Road King and keep the stock spoked rear wheel. Thanks
