Road trip Leesburg, Ga to Key west and back. Little over 1,500 mile. At the last stop sign on the trip, 50-ft from the barn, I let the clutch out. Without warning there was a loud, but short squeal like a loose fan belt in a car the engine locked-up! I was not prepared for the sudden stop as my butt slid forward and my jewels jammed the leading edge of the gas tank.
HD mech can't explain why. This was the first they ever saw or heard of this ever happening to 2007 96ci motor. They called in the big guns from region and Hdqtrs after removing the rear cyclinder. The piston on rear cyclinder disintegrated. Three-quarters of the piston jammed between the crank and the housing. Bits and pieces of the piston even ended up in the intake manifold. Bike is under warranty. May take five to six weeks in the shop to totally replace the motor with a new one. Dayton bikefest is coming-up. Didn't get to make Bike Week this year.
There maybe a lot of things to be thankful for such as not runing 75 mph when the motor broke and the fact that there's very little money to dish-out since the bike is under warranty. I'll make Dayton and fall rides. I'll just have to make the trip on old faithful, 1980 FXS. She's gotten me there and back for the last 28 years.
I'll keep in touch to let ya'll know what the HD rep pass along. Read more ยป
